Did you know that Valencia is the cradle of modern chess? This is one of the reasons why the Gay Games XII had to host this discipline. In 1495, the Valencian author Francesch Vicent published in the city the ‘Llibre dels jochs partits del schachs en nombre de 100’, considered the first manual of rules of modern chess.
Register for chess and come and play with people from all over the world ready to shout “Checkmate” before you; will you allow it?
Remember that you will need to show your accreditation when accessing to the competition.
Bring your bottle, there are fountains nearby to refill it.
You don’t need anything special, you will find everything you need to participate.

HOW
- The tournament will be played in individual format following international chess rules (FIDE regulations).
- Depending on the number of registrations, the event may include:
- Standard / Classical chess
- Rapid chess
- Blitz chess
- All matches will be conducted under the Swiss system (paired by score after each round).
- Each participant will be required to record their moves and respect time controls as defined by the tournament director.
- Time controls for Classical chess will be determined by the Tournament Director depending on schedule and number of rounds.
- Seeding and pairings will be based on players’ FIDE rating (if available) or on the organizer’s classification system for unrated participants.
- Tie-breaks will follow standard FIDE tie-breaking rules.

WHO
There are no gender divisions in Chess — all participants over 18 years of age compete together in an open, inclusive format.
Depending on registration numbers, the tournament director may create divisions based on:
- Playing level or rating (e.g., Advanced / Intermediate / Recreational)
- or time control (Standard, Rapid, Blitz).
This registration is also for you if you live with a disability.
