- In the days leading up to February 19, through its social media channels, Gay Games XII València 2026 is creating spaces to share those realities.
LGBTI-phobia in sports can be “just a disgusting look” in the locker room, hearing “dyke” as you step onto the court or being picked last in school because “a faggot can’t play soccer.” These are experiences that are often kept silent out of fear they might happen again.
Those realities are some of the testimonies received by the Gay Games XII València 2026 team through their social media channels, highlighting the urgent need to create safe spaces. In response, the local organizing committee is preparing this campaign together with its community and the 7,550 participants who have already registered. The goal is to share some of these experiences—with permission from those who tell them— “as a small contribution to this international fight.”
The organization also recalls that the origin of the Gay Games was to create “a global playing field where all diversity is welcome. Whoever you are, you have a place at this event.” “Our goal is for visibility to thrive between competitions, and for no one to have to hide in order to play,” they conclude.

Gay Games XII Valencia 2026 will take place from June 27 to July 4, 2026. Over the course of the week, thousands of participants from around the globe will gather in Valencia to compete in dozens of sports—from soccer to pétanque—enjoy a wide range of cultural activities, and celebrate diversity together in a safe, inclusive environment.
